One of the most valuable disciplines in a Christian’s life is Scripture memorization. Far too often we fail to make this the priority it should be—mostly because it’s hard, right?
One of my personal goals for 2017 is to make Scripture memorization a regular practice in my life again. The best way I have found to get started (or restarted) is to make it my goal to memorize one verse per week.
Scripture Memorization: 4 Verses to Memorize about Serving
Since our focus this month is connection through serving, I thought verses relating to that theme would be a great place to start. And, I also thought some of you might want to join me … and maybe even encourage your family to memorize these verses as well.
These are the verses I’ll be memorizing:
And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God require of you, but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in all his ways, to love him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul. Deuteronomy 10:12
Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. Galatians 6:2
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. Ephesians 2:10
Turn away from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it. Psalm 34:14
So, what about you? Ready to memorize a few verses with me? Let me know in the comments if you want to memorize one or all these verses in March!
A Prayer for Discipline
Lord, give us hearts that desire to memorize Your Word. Even though it’s hard, may we remember that hiding Your Words of truth are a powerful means of protecting ourselves from sin. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
